Osso buco is a classic Italian dish made from braised veal shanks cooked together with vegetables and broth. The end result is a juicy and flavorful piece of meat that is both tender and satisfying.
Here's a simple recipe for halal osso buco steak:
Ingredients:
4 veal shanks (about 1 1/2 pounds each)
Salt and pepper, to taste
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 large onion, chopped
2 carrots, chopped
2 celery stalks, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes
1 cup beef broth
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
Instructions:
Season the veal shanks with salt and pepper and dredge them in the flour.
In a large Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat.
Add the veal shanks to the pot and brown them on all sides, about 5 minutes per side.
Remove the veal shanks from the pot and set aside.
Add the onion, carrots, celery, and garlic to the pot and cook until the vegetables are soft and fragrant, about 5 minutes.
Return the veal shanks to the pot and add the diced tomatoes and beef broth.
Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and cover the pot.
Cook the osso buco until the meat is tender and falling off the bone, about 2-3 hours.
Serve the osso buco with chopped parsley and basil on top. Enjoy!
